Great Machine
Have only had it for a week but my family loves this thing. Would be 5 stars if it had some kind of holder for the scoop.

Major Defrosting Issue
My wife and I were super excited to get this ice maker, only to be extremely disappointed with the machine. We set it up according to the instructions, but once we actually ran it, we noticed it began to defrost after about one hour. Then we noticed it never ran for more than an hour without defrosting. I looked into it and saw that GE considers defrosting once per day to be too much, let alone once per hour like hours. We have cleaned it, descaled it, tested the air vents, and made sure it has proper clearance. Over two weeks ago we put in a request with Opal support and have been tossed around to three different people, with zero solutions provided and each of them asking the same questions as the person before. Now it has been over a week since we’ve heard back from any of them. We are extremely frustrated that we paid $500 for an ice maker that doesn’t even fill up halfway with ice because of how frequently it defrosts. Cannot recommend. Will update if customer service comes through.UPFATE: Customer service replaced the unit and the new one works great. Must have been a defective unit.

This is a fantastic ice maker. Fast, quiet and delicious ice. We will never be able to be without it. Once you start using this ice everything else is second best.

Would not buy again
I have owned the GE Profile Opal 2.0 since October. It is now early March. I makes great nugget ice, but:1. I have cleaned this machine with water and beach religiously every Thursday night. If you don’t, black mold will grow.2. I live in an area with hard water so I have also descaled it with vinegar every 2 weeks. You have to leave the vinegar in for 18 hours each time! I tried putting the nuggets in the freezer and deep freeze so that I would have ice during those 18+ hours but it always turns into a solid nugget chunk no matter what I store it in.3. I only used reverse osmosis water for the first 3 months. That cost too much, so I started using filtered tap water.4. The 1st week I had my machine it made ice fairy quickly and was bearably quiet. Ever since then it has been a lot slower and is very loud. The motor running in general is loud. It makes squealing noises frequently. It takes about 5 hours to fill the bin with ice now (until today, see below) when it is working. Yes, I do have plenty of space for airflow on both sides and clean the vents weekly as well.6. For the past two weeks I have been getting the add water message when there is water in the tank. I have had to hold my thumb over the hole inside of the tank to create suction because it apparently has an air bubble in it? I left the little screen out today because I got tired of removing it to hold my thumb over the hole in the water reservoir.7. I just finished the 18 hour descaling process yesterday. My machine has been on for 3 hours. The picture will show you how much ice it has made in those 3 hours. It has now put itself in defrost mode. It is 72.5 degrees in here and has adequate airflow. This is ridiculous. I’m glad I purchased the 5 year warranty. My machine is on until it fills up the bin and then I turn it off and unplug it for the day. I have the side tank but only used it once because I don’t see a way to clean inside of the side tank other than adding bleach water and shaking it around. There is no need for a side tank if you don’t use more than what the bin holds in a day, and if you do, you can easily just pour water into the reservoir. I would save your money and search for a cheaper model. This thing is turning into a nightmare. I’m calling GE today.

Freedom from filling ice trays!
Owned this for just over a month now, set up was actually easy, connecting to the app was simple too, in spite of many complaints from other users. Noise is actually minimal, the loudest is the actual ice dropping into the bin, but it’s not an issue. Ice production is flawless, and plentiful, with 3 adults in the home, we don’t have a problem with running out because it just keep pumping out ice. DEFINITELY get the side tank! It’s a godsend in keeping the ice flowing! Cleaning is a chore, I won’t lie about that, but it’s becoming easier the more I do it. I just wished the cleaning cycle was longer 3 minutes seems short to flush and clean the machine. Just completed a 1 month descaling, and will laborious it was necessary.Over all I’m extremely happy with the ice maker, I strongly suggest you invest in the replaceable water filters that fit into the bottom of the reservoir, they will slow down build up and make the cleaning go easier, also use FILTERED (we have a Pur filter) water to fill the tank/reservior, your machine will thank you for it. Don’t use tap water! Feel that this was a expensive purchase but can totally justify the cost as much ice as we use.

I love this machine and well worth the higher price
I really love this ice maker. I previously purchased one of the less expensive “bullet” ice type (Igloo) and it stopped working after about 30 days so I returned it. I didn’t own an ice maker before that one and really love having one. I use bottled water for it and it tastes great. Besides the obvious benefit of the small chewable ice, there are many other benefits. One, it keeps the ice MUCH longer. The ice melts much slower in the GE model because it has a more insulated container holding the ice, The clear plastic part is double walled which helps a lot. This machine is much quieter than the others. You still hear the compressor, but since the ice is smaller and in a more insulated container, its really quiet when it drops. This ice maker makes the ice on a more continuous basis rather than waiting for a batch of 9 of the bullets in the others. Overall it also just seems much better made. The ONLY thing I haven’t figured out yet is the app. I have it connected, which is cool in itself to be able to turn it on/off, adjust the light, see the current status (like when it is out of water). However I scheduled it to turn off at night and that part doesn’t seem to be working. It’s very likely user error. Also for those debating getting the side container of water or not, I did not and don’t think I will. The machine itself stores enough water to more than fill the large ice storage of ice. So unless you are going to make ice to store in a freezer, or go through more than one bin a day, I don’t think it is that beneficial. I chose not to get it mostly due to wanting to save the space on my counter.

Love it!
I love nugget ice but it’s hard to find…and almost impossible to find a machine for home. The Opal 2.0 is absolutely wonderful! It is expensive…but it’s definitely worth it you’re a nugget-ice lover like myself. Some people say it is too loud but in my experience, it is only slightly louder than my refrigerator and I don’t even notice it anymore. With GE’s smart HQ app, we’ve set it up to only run during the daytime. The only thing I’ve found that I don’t like is getting the ice out. When you pull the ice bin out to get the ice, quite a bit of water drips out so using the drip tray is essential. I also got the side-tank accessory and highly recommend it. Without it, you have to fill up the water reservoir which is under the ice bin. All-in-all, it is exactly what I was looking for and I’m very happy with my purchase.

Great ice, load noise
Love this ice maker but one issue I have is when the machine is defrosting it make a loud squealing noise that last for about five minutes that’s hard to ignore. Other then that the ice is great and last longer then then other machines I’ve had

Delicious ice. Easy to use/maintain. Noisy.
I’ve owned the Opal 2.0 ice maker for two months now. The ice is fantastic, my entire family loves this machine and uses it constantly throughout the day. Ice production is quick. Cleaning per the manual is easy (I’ve read reviews of hidden compartments that become an issue with longer use, I’ll update if i experience the same). I use distilled water, I hope this minimizes some maintenance issues. My biggest complaint is the noise. Regardless of how much ice you take, one cube or the entire bucket, If you open the the ice compartment it initiates the ice production = noise. Hopefully with the Opal 3.0 they can modify this.Regardless of the noise, we love this appliance. Enjoy!

Read this review
I bought this machine a little less than 3 months ago. I didn’t read the reviews until AFTER I bought it. I got super nervous because I read several talking about it making a big noise within a month of getting it. Here’s what I figured out.A)DOES NOT COME WITH A FILTER. YOU MUST BUY YOUR OWN. I assume alot of the noise issues were caused by 1 of 2 things. Not putting a filter, and using with hard or hard like water or letting water reserve run dry.2) It consumes lots of water. LOTS. Buy the extra tank. We go through 2 gallons of water a day with ours.3) the ice is PERFECT.4) Cleaning it is super easy5) I repeat the points about making sure you get a filter and monitor the water level. There is a nifty app that let’s the machine “talk” to you. It tells you what it needs.I’ve had no issues whatsoever with this machine. I keep it in the drink room (a converted game/drink room in the garage. The instructions specified not to install it next to a microwave or stove top. This is for heat issues. The machine can get hot, so keep it in a cooler place. Otherwise, I recommend this machine.

Life is short, buy the ice maker!!
***2 week review*** I almost didn’t buy because of all the “not so great” reviews. I tried nugget ice trays, but they weren’t a good fit for me. So I decided to buy the ice maker…what’s the worst that can happen…return it? I AM 100% IN LOVE!! It refills automatically after removing ice. The sounds are not bad at all. I compare it to a refrigerator hum, not loud at all. I think my Freezer ice maker in my refrigerator is louder than this machine. I buy gallon jugs of distilled water strictly for this ice machine. Not sure if it makes a difference…but I saw it in another review, so that’s what I use. It’s about $.70 a jug, so no big deal. If it helps the life of the machine, I’ll do it. I will try to come back and post an updated review after 2 months of use. As of today, I 10 out of 10 recommend this machine!!! Life is short, buy the ice maker!!

Great Ice – Put it in your Freezer’s Ice Bin
First, very good ice. Good soft porous texture that allows for your drink to seep in and soft to crunch so your dentist will be happy. Second, though the machine is designed to run 24/7, I found that by having an existing refrigerator with an ice maker/dispenser, I turned off the existing ice maker in my fridge and make ice once a week and pour this nugget ice in the bin. Works perfect for our family. A few tips I learned: by using the filtered water dispenser on the refrigerator to fill the Opal ice maker, I use filtered water without the need to buy the filter for the Opal. Once I make a hopper of ice, I put it in a plastic bag in the freezer while I’m making a second hopper of ice. Once that is ready, take out the plastic bag, drop it on the counter a few times and then pour it in your freezer ice bin (this keeps any ice that was still a bit wet in the Opal from sticking together). Also, when your done, you can wind up with an extra bag of ice in your freezer should you run low before making more. Overall, great product. Cleaned easy when it said to descale (but I didn’t notice any buildup anywhere that I could see), runs quieter than our dishwasher and, like I said, we only use it for 10 or so hours a week. Love it!

SO WORTH THE MONEY
We purchased this after our last ice machine lasted just 1 year and wasn’t producing ice the way it should. At first we were weary of the price tag but we have had it for a few weeks and are in love. The machine is quiet when it makes the ice and the bin is ALWYS full. We had a Super Bowl party and for the first time there was plenty of ice and we didn’t have to go and buy a bag from the local gas station. We opted to purchase the unit with the side tank and we are so glad we did, just ensure the tube connector always lays flat. This is so worth the money and one of my favorite purchases this year

It is extremely loud.

Just speaking as a regular everyday Joe, well, It’s awesome. It looks awesome. It feels awesome. It fits awesome in our kitchen. I’m more than sure that whenever someone comes over it’ll be something they mention, I’ll even pour them a glass of fancy ass looking water and theyll say something like, ” wow, i like your ice cubes, that’s an awesome looking machine, dood. I should hang out with you more often. You’re so cool. “.But, what in the world is up with the noise on this thing? Like is this normal? Is this the price one must pay for top tier ice? It is so loud that my refrigerator is telling it to quiet down. It is so loud i can hear it in the bedroom while playing video games. It it so loud I walked outside the apartment, closed the door and I could still hear it off in the distance.I’m convinced either my unit is slightly defective, or this is just the price a human being in the year of 2022 must pay to have some top teir ass ice ready to go in your kitchen whenever. I uploaded a video of me catching a moment of it making ice and making that loud ass noise, and a moment when it wasn’t making ice and it really show off how beautiful the device is with its front LED light and pull out tray full of ice. Truly a beautiful, but loud-ass machine. If my machine is defective, please someone let me know. I’d like this machine more, possibly love it, if it didn’t sound like an aquarium next to a megaphone.🤙🏽🍻🙏🏽

TOTAL GAME CHANGER
I ordered this for me because chewing ice is something I crave. I’ve been buying Sonic ice for years to feed my habit. During this last hot summer, 3 Sonic’s within a 15 mile radius were not selling bags of ice Because their machines were down. It honestly took over 2 months for them to get back on track. Needless to say I panicked and decided it was time to buy this machine. Well, not one second has passed that I have regretted it.I brought it to my mom’s (she is an ice muncher too…) and opened it there. That was over 2 months ago. She uses it every day and has completely rearranged her kitchen for this beauty. There is no way I could take it back now. She is in love with it and that’s fine with me. Whatever to make mom happy, right? The ice is so perfect, soft but cruchy. The flavor of the ice is super tasty and fresh. I’ve have read reviews that complain about the machine and it’s loudness or noises it makes…. I can only speak for my machine and it’s a dream. I swear I can’t even tell when it’s making ice. It honestly is very quiet. We absolutely LOVE this ice machine. It looks as though I’ll need to get one for my place now… haha that’s OK. It’s worth it plus mom is happy and loves hers too. We truly couldn’t be happier with this ice machine. ❤️ it!!I will be cleaning it for the 1st time soon and will review that also…

Decided to buy one for Christmas. The ice is great! And it produces plenty of ice for home of 2, plus guests. I feel the product remains a little pricey, but the ice quality is unmatched. Best ice I have ever experienced.

Nugget ice is good
Even with the additional reservoir for water, you still have to fill it up often. Especially when multiple people in the household use the ice.

I was excited to use the ice machine, after reading the instructions and cleaning the machine it stated that you need to purchase the filter separate. My opinion the filter should be included. I had to order the filter and will be shipped after the new year. The machine works well and makes the ice as stated.

Review update
UPDATE – so after pulling off the back panel & trying everything under the sun to get the water tank to start flowing again, my husband noticed the little pump balloon looked clogged. So with a few quick succession of squeezes, water started flowing again. We descaled it using vinegar & through cleaning cycles for about 2 hours. We also used a straw brush to descale the inside of the tubing on the back of the machine. We stopped cleaning when there was no more scale visible in the water. All the issues we were having are resolved. It’s quiet and making ice quickly & nicely chewable. Lol From now on, we will descale each week to keep it clear. A small task given how much we love the ice. Did I mention we love the ice nuggets? Loved this machine for about a month. Then it began screeching like a cat being killed. Then it started making other strange noises. Ice wasn’t made as often. Sometimes not at all. Constantly on defrost. We’ve tried everything to clean it, remove scale & all the other things in the booklet to address these issues to no avail. Now it won’t run water through it when there is water in the reservoir. I’m beyond frustrated. We found a lot of people on diff sites abs even YT to address the same issues we had but it’s been useless. GE warranty is very limited so if they say we did something wrong (like what tho bc we’ve done everything we read in the booklet) we’re out the money. I will call but have my doubts. I wish it worked.

Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!
The first one I bought, my wife and I literally wore out. We just couldn’t get enough of the ice! Bought a new one and had it 2 month’s and my house burned down. So we just upgraded to the newest version and love the new upgrades. When folks come to the house they fall in love with the ice it makes. Makes for a great drink! Would highly recommend this product.

Love it, BUT, Sounds Like Two Stray Cats Fighting in the Alley!
This is the second Opal I have purchased. We purchased the original Opal over 3 years ago and it worked great. I believe it gave out because I didn’t realize I needed to descale the machine monthly. The new version is fabulous, but has one problem. It appears to get too cold and freezes, causing ice to get stuck in the thingy that pushes it out. When this happens it makes a horrible screaming noise! It literally sounds like two cats fighting and screaming in the alley, and it won’t stop. I tried turning the power off, but, it just continues screaming! You literally have to unplug the machine to make it stop! To fix this I pour hot water into the water Reservoir and let it sit for a few minutes. This melts whatever ice is clogging the machine. I sent one back because of this and now the replacement is doing the same thing. I guess it’s just a flaw in the machine. It doesn’t defrost itself like the older version which is, what I believe, causes this issue. I still highly recommend getting the older version or the newer version, However I would get the extended warranty on the new version, as I don’t know if this will limit the life of the machine. They are great if you can tolerate two cats fight in the alley! Good luck!

Very quiet. and really good Ice. My wife loves it!
I was nervous getting this from the reviews that I read. I was pleasently suprised. It is quiet. It can make the first round of ice within 7 minutes. The ice is not “wet”. It is easy to add water and it works wonderfully with Alexa.I do wish that there was a hose hook up and sensor that would allow me to tap into my fridge water supply so that it filled itself, but it is not terrible withhout it. I fill it up each morning as coffee is making and that’s all I do each day. It wil take about 8 cups of water and that will fill the bin twice. You can over fill. For example, you can have a full bin of ice and then fill up the water reservoir. It will stop making ice until the amount of ice drops, then it will start making ice until it fills up again.I have to listen for it to hear it. I have mine on a schedule with Alexa to make ice from 5am – 10am and then again at 4pm – 10pm. works great. With this schedule, I have always had ice when I went to get some.Really satified with this product and would suggest it. The reservoir is nice, but I don’t have it and am not planning to buy it. Haven’t needed it. Wish the price was about $100 less, but I’m not fussying that much. Solid build.

GREAT ice maker, even if you have one or more in fridge, you might want this.
When we first got this, we questioned some design ideas, how the side tank is filled, the fact that the internal reservoir is ‘open’ internally, but after using this for a month or two it makes TOTAL sense and is proper design.Couple notes though, you DON’T need to buy cleaner/descaler as you can use a little bleach for cleaning and vinegar for descaling. While cleaning if you have problems draining water from internal reservoir, a trick is after running actual cleaning cycles, run one (or multiple) ones again, and when water is taken into the ‘other’ reservoir (water level drops in the visible inside one) OVERRIDE the cleaning cycle before it continues, and drain (you might need to do it twice per ‘cycle’) when originally gotten drain seemed fine without doing this, but on a descale we had to do it, also during rinse/descale/sanitization, fill the visible internal reservoir to the ‘full ice’ level (the fill line about 1/3 of the reservoir) instead of the ’empty ice’ one. We use costco drinking water to make ice (via tank). One last note, if you have tank, SOMETIMES it will say ‘more water/water low’ on first attempt after all the descale/sanitize stuff, in that case, just fill about 1-2″ in the visible internal reservoir and that will ‘prime’ it.It’s NOT silent but it’s not loud, and the exhaust fan doesn’t exhaust HOT air, maybe mildly warm so it doesn’t heat up house much.

This thing pays for itself.
Was skeptical about buying this online, saw some negative reviews and almost backed out. But I really wanted a big surprise for my wife’s bday. And I have to say, this thing is awesome. It pays for itself honestly. We were constantly buying bags of ice and even for a small ice machine that made cubed ice but it broke after a month:This ice machine has been going strong for over 6 months now and I couldn’t be happier. Wife loves it. We both use it everyday and it comes in handy when we have guests over. Strongly recommend. It even tells you when it’s time to clean it out. Keep up with the maintenance on it and it’ll last.

Can’t live without, but it does require effort to keep clean
I’ve had the first version of this for years. Can’t live without it. Disabled the ice maker from the fridge because it constantly froze up. My first unit had some issues that I worked through (replaced the pump, extensive descaling) and finally stopped working, claiming the bin was full. I’ve been unable to locate a replacement sensor to try to fix it and opted to buy a replacement. These units require constant, scheduled cleaning. You have to take the tank off, drain the machine into a sink, fill it with bleach and water, run a cleaning cycle a few times and then do a number of rinse sessions. This machine is VERY sensitive to scale and any other contaminates. After a lot of research, this was the only maker that met my needs. Another caveat is that it sometimes thinks it’s out of water. Gotta mess with the tank and lines for 15 seconds to “kick it”. Minor and infrequent occurrence. If you can swallow the steep price, I highly recommend this machine.

Casita Ice Maker
I bought this unit for our casita to support summer time pool traffic. From unboxing to generating first batch of ice was approximately 50-60 minutes. The setup process is fairly easy but I suggest setting up near a sink to empty the line from the bleach mixture you run thru the system the first time and clean water the next 7 times. Wi-Fi set up is a breeze. It churns out ice pretty fast IMO. Looking forward to see how it keeps up with the summer time demands.

Amazing Ice Maker
The ice maker is amazing. Functions great. Produces ice quickly. We use it every day, all the time. Extra water tank on the side is absolutely needed. Wish it had the option of connecting a water line to avoid the side tank.*****There is one problem with this unit however. The pump that pushes the water from the lower tank under the ice up to the inner tank/system is week and causes a lot of squeaking noises. Mine ended up failing. Found a replacement on Amazon that is a perfect fit and corrects the squeaking noise. Ended up buying two pumps to have one on hand incase this happens again. For the pump search for “uxcell DC 12V 300mA 1300ml Water Flow Food Grade Self Priming Diaphragm Micro Water Pump”*****

Great countertop ice maker with new features. A bit loud. Buy the extended warranty.
I’ve owned two of these now. The last one the family loved, the first generation of this machine, but it died after only two years of operation. I should have bought the extended warranty. We got this second generation unit now and it has great new features, like stopping if the water gets low. The last one just groaned loudly if the water ran out. Could be the reason it died early, but that’s not my fault, that would be bad engineering. In any event, this new model is still a bit louder than I would like when it’s running, which is about half the day since my family uses a lot of ice. This time I got the extended warranty so if the thing konks-out in 2 years, they can replace it.The new controls are also much easier to use and understand. Also, I recommend using ONLY descaled or soft water for the unit as it tends to scale up quickly. Descale at least once a month if you have hard water that is unfiltered.Over all, I gave this unit 5-stars for the looks, the kind of ice it makes, and the new ease of use controls. The next generations of this unit GE needs to really fix the noise level. There is no reason the unit needs to be this vibrating loud. Major oversight in my view.

Totally worth the money!
If you are going to invest in an ice maker, this one is totally worth the money. I purchased a cheaper counter top ice maker a few months prior. It broke within 2 months. It was loud and it was a lot of work to keep ice going. I was constantly filling it with water. It ran out of water all of the time so it would shut off and I would constantly walk in to no ice. My GE Opal is perfect! It was packaged really well for shipping. It was super simple to set up. It is very quiet. You can tell it is running but it is not distracting at all! I do not have to add water every day due to the side tank! The ice tray stays full all day long!

Nice so far!
After reading the reviews and understanding the water quality is key. I drain the water from the unit and flush the tank every 2-4 days. Been working great with no issues. I do live in Louisiana and have great water quality in the house.

2.0 is the way to go.
I had the first GE Opal and it lasted almost 2 years. I was upset about that because of the price. I left a pretty horrible review about it and vowed to never buy another GE product. Until… I read the reviews on this 2.0. The difference between the two machines is night and day! The first Opal I had could not keep up with my ice eating habit. The thing was constantly empty and it was super hot to the touch on the side. It seemed to only work when it wanted to. The 2.0…. I can’t keep up with it! I’ll take my LARGE cup of ice and eat it all up (I know, it’s a problem lol) and by the time I go to refill my cup, the ice bin in this bad boy is full AGAIN! Should also mention it’s much quieter than the last model. I barely notice it running at all.Things I’m doing different with this one… I bought the 5 year warranty. It’s such an expensive purchase, I think it’s a good idea. Especially since I’ve already had issues with the first model. It gives me a little peace of mind. And, when I purchased this one, I bought a Brita water filter pitcher. Kind of a slower process than just filling at the sink, but I am determined to make this one last. After not having ice for a week while I decided on which machine to buy, I’m ridiculously happy to have this. I pray that it lasts! I LOVE this ice. It’s absolutely perfect for those of us who literally crave ice and HAVE to have it

Compared to Opal 2
Unlike these other reviews I actually bought mine. I did not get it for free. I had a Opal 2 for the last 2 years and everything went smoothly for about a year and a half. The latter part of year 2 the machine made awful squeaking noises and started to leak everywhere. I saw this model had come out and I liked the design of it better. It is a little taller than the Opal 2 but seems to hold more and is much more efficient. I have had no problems so far with it as it has only been a week. I will update if anything changes.

Wish we would have bought it sooner!
I am so glad my husband and I decided to purchase this! I was worried that it would be a hassle and we would end up not using it. We’ve had it for about 6 months and have used it EVERY DAY. Simple to use and maintain!

Little loud
This is a little loud but not horrible at all. It’s in our kitchen that is in an open floor plan with out living room and I don’t even have to turn the tv up when it’s on. I couldn’t imagine having this and not having the side tank though. We have it for currently 3 months now and experienced 0 issues. My wife couldn’t be happier with the “good” ice.

AWESOME ice!
This little machine puts out the BEST pellet ice (like Chick-Fil-A’s). Makes all drinks that much better. Even great for eating by itself. In fact, my dughter’s boyfriend says it’s the best snack in our house! It DOES make a lot of noise, but we don’t care. It’s worth it. We put it in our laundry room off the kitchen, so it doesn’t bother us. Just be sure to keep checking the water reservoir every couple of days. We’re in love with this machine.

Kind of noisy
It is loud next to some other appliances, mostly caused by vibration of a side panel. It’s possible some dampening material will quiet it down, but it is noticeable.Otherwise great.

My husband loves this!
he hated that our frig had only an ice cube option; he prefers smaller pieces of ice and this makes him very happy.

Requires cleaning
Love this ice maker. We used to use ice trays and now we have ice on demand. The extra water tank is very handy to keep from having to fill the internal tank all the time. It does require monthly cleaning. We use distilled water to help keep the system between cleanings.

Great ice machine
This is a great ice machine. Although it only makes enough ice for 3 small cups at a time, we bag the ice up and freeze it to refill our ice maker in our fridge.I do find it a bit crazy that they do not send the filter for it with it! For the price you pay for this machine it should have the large water filter and the side tank with it. We did purchase both separately which adds up quickly since the side tank is another $100 and the filter is around $15 I think. All in all it makes the great Sonic style ice we love it’s just a bit on the pricey side!!

So far: So good.
I recieved my GE Profile Opal 2 Ice Maker with the side tank about a week ago and so far so good. While I was waiting for my unit to arrive, I read and re-read the reviews and to be honest: I was expecting the worst. I have been very pleased so far. The machine is in our small shop break room next to my office. The noise is very slight: much like a small refrigerator hum. We fill the side tank once a day and it is always full of the “good ice”. With the light on it makes for a pleasant little beacon of refreshment. I completely realize that this might just be good luck during the honeymoon phase of our relationship, but nothing to complain about yet.

Very nice ice Maker, My family loved it.
Set up is easy. Ice maker should be near a sink. I can not imagine having it without the extra tank. We fill the tank at least once a day for a family of 4. (Get the tank!) I had to try about 10 times to get WIFi App to sink up. We shut the ice maker off at 9pm and it still has ice in when we turn it at 6am. We have an open floor plan so it is a little louder than I had hoped but I feel like you just get used to it. A few days after use it said I need to descale it even though we have a water softener. GE said to unplug it let it rest. The Error went a way. I did purchase the extended warranty. Lots of good ytube videos on how to open it up and clean the inside. Will update this review in a few month. The ice is perfect and makes drink cold fast with little foam. Not hard to chew and is helping me get more daily water intake. The drip tray is my only complaint so far. When you open the ice drawer it drips so you need a paper towel.12/12/22- had to set it to cycle off every few hours otherwise it starts squealing. The internal defrost cycle does not seem to work that great. So I would not advise trying to run it for 16 hours straight.12/26/22- so still dealing with squealing. I have been playing around with the schedule to give it more chances to defrost. I think the squealing comes from it not being about to push the frozen ice out. Still love the ice so not giving up yet.12/28/22- did several cleaning cycles with bleach. Set up running time for hour on then and hour off. Moved it so it has good ventilation on both sides. No squealing so far after changes.1/14/23- to sync up to phone app pull up a chair and sit right next to it with your phone. Any further away does not seem to work. My machine has been working fine as long as it has several off cycles between run times. If I try to leave it on for more than a few hours it always start making unpleasant noises. It has lost WiFi twice and each when it keeps running without programming it starts making all kinds of bad noises. Just my personal experiences. Keep with a on/off hourly schedule.

Awesome Ice Maker
The only reason it gets 4 stars is that it is loud when it makes ice. Would love for it to be quieter.

I go through a lot of ice each day. This has kept up and is the really good chewable ice like Sonic. Highly recommend!!!

Best countertop, icemaker, hands down
Did quite a bit of research and landed on this guy. Hands-down, one of the best purchases I’ve made on Amazon. Don’t know what the other brands are like, but can say this is well worth what I paid.

My wife loves it
I bought this for my wife for Christmas. She had borrowed two friends nugget ice makers several times because she really likes nugget ice. Both our friends ice makers are cheap Chinese ones and they always have problems with them. One friend ended up getting her money back and the other just suffers with theirs.I knew my wife really wanted one but I wanted a quality one, not a cheap one. I did lots of research and found that the GE Opal always ranked high and had great reviews. We have been totally impressed with this ice maker. My wife’s even got me hooked on nugget ice. It is WAY quieter than our friends. You really don’t hear it unless you are in the kitchen. When we had used our friends ice makers, they were very loud. Some other things I really like about the GE Opal 2 – it makes ice very fast. It connects to WiFi so you can turn it on/off remotely. You can set a schedule for it to turn on/off at certain times. We have very hard water so we have to clean/descale once a month. It is a little bit of a hassle, lots of draining, lots of vinegar, an 18 hour wait time, and lots of rinsing. However, if you want your ice maker running in tip top shape and for it to last, you want to be faithful in doing this maintenance.Overall, we love this ice maker and are very pleased with it. I laugh at my wife because she bags the ice in 2 gallon bags and hands it out to friends and neighbors. She really likes her nugget ice. This GE Opal 2.0 is a workhorse and keeps her and all our friends very happy.

ICE ice baby.
I mean, is there anything better than the ice from chick-fil-A -at home? You won’t be disappointed. It makes enough ice for four or five people at a time. But don’t think you’ll have a party of 10 and not run out of ice. Still, it’s worth it.

Worth every penny
